Project Assessment Process

Project Assessment Process

The assessment process rates each project to determine the impact the project would have on Bowdoin's community and the effort the project would take to complete.

Impact is measured based on the following criteria:

To what extent does the project:

  • Make data more accessible/transferrable (weighted twice)
  • Directly enhance the student experience (weighted twice)
  • Increase security (weighted twice)
  • Consolidate/eliminate system(s)
  • Represent a risk if we DON'T do it
  • Save money
  • Increase productivity

Effort is measured based on the following criteria:

To what extent does the project:

  • Require significant development time
  • Require significant networking/infrastructure effort
  • Require significant integration effort
  • Have complexity that requires more than average testing
  • Require organizational change management

All criteria are rated on a scale of 1 (Low) to 4 (High) and then averaged to come up with a single rating for Imact and a single rating for Effort.

The highest possible score for impact is 40; lowest is 10
The highest possible score for effort is 20; lowest is 5
